Exclusive Interview with Irma Cadiz

Irma Cadiz was recently interviewed by Famo Celebrity Magazine and below is the Q&A session we had with her.

Introduction – Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a NYC based Latina actress who loves to bake when I have free time. My adult children would tell you that I’m corny but it doesn’t stop me from sharing my personality with the world.

Personal Background – Can you share a little experience about your Upbringing and Early Life?

My upbringing was a little suppressed, in the sense that I didn’t go out much & had an itch to explore. As an adult I’ve devoted time into seeking out every passion that I may have dreamed about as a child and may have felt was out of reach. I had loving & devoted parents who love God and equally bestowed that love onto me. They instilled in me a sense of honor and humility that I carry with me everywhere I go. Hopefully I have represented them well in this journey called life & will continue to bring them pride.

Career and Achievements – What do you consider the Highlights of your Career so far?

The highlight of my career so far, has been in recently becoming a member of the actors union and securing 2 recurring roles, one of them working alongside Patina Miller in Raising Kanan. These moves tell me that as long as I continue to show up and put in the work, I will continue to climb the ladder of success.

Challenges and Growth – What are some of the Challenges you’ve faced in your Career, and how did you Overcome them?

My acting career has often had to take a back seat for this thing called life. Raising my children alone took me out of the game for some time, but I always kept my dreams in my heart and would always come back to film and theater. There is NO other way for me, the creative inside of me needs to be nourished in the very same way our bodies and soul need nourishment. We often tend to doubt ourselves and believe that we aren’t enough. To this day, sometimes a role description will come in where I will immediately cast the image of the character in my head as either younger than me, or with longer, straighter hair, almost eliminating myself from the character before even trying. It is a human trait to listen to inner voices that tell us lies about our abilities. We all belong in this industry and there is room for women who don’t necessarily fit a copy/paste mold.

Passions and Hobbies – What are your Interests and Hobbies outside of your Career?

Outside of my career I enjoy exploring aspects of my culture that I may have ignored as a young person for fear of being able to assimilate with the other kids at school. Anyone who grew up with immigrant parents can relate to this regardless of their cultural background. My mom was making “Arroz con habichuelas” just about every night, & I craved a pb&j or some McDonald’s. Now as an adult I realize that our parents were giving us nutritional food that came from the heart & cradle of our ancestral homes. I’ve spent a great deal of my adulthood learning how to replicate the flavors I remember from my childhood as a way to show appreciation for my mother’s efforts and gaining along with it a deeper love and respect for just how strong of a woman she truly is.

Milestones and Future Goals – What are some of the Milestones you hope to Achieve in the coming years?

I want to make myself known and to leave behind for my children a very strong legacy. I need them to understand that nothing in this world will ever be out of their reach as long as they are willing to put i the work. If the universe decides to align with my efforts I will soon find myself on the big screen. That is my goal. I want to be in a blockbuster movie, and I want to be a series regular on an award winning show.
