Kenny OD was recently interviewed by Famo Celebrity Magazine and below is the Q&A session we had with him.
Can you tell us about yourself?
As a filmmaker based in Atlanta, I’m driven by a philosophical curiosity and a passion for storytelling. My films not only provoke thought but also teach and inspire audiences. I strive to create cinematic experiences that linger long after the credits roll, leaving viewers with newfound knowledge, perspectives, and a sense of wonder. Through my work, I aim to educate, motivate, and empower audiences to think critically, challenge assumptions, and embrace their potential. By exploring complex themes and issues, I hope to inspire meaningful conversations, personal growth, and positive change.
Having written and produced several films, can you share with us what inspires you work?
The Bible is my creative North Star, guiding my storytelling and inspiring my imagination. As I delve into its timeless wisdom, I uncover precious gems of truth, insight, and guidance that shape my films. The scriptures are my go-to source for understanding the human condition, with all its complexities, contradictions, and beauty. My movies are a reflection of my spiritual journey, exploring the depths of faith, hope, and redemption. By tapping into this ancient wisdom, I am able to craft stories that not only entertain but also uplift, challenge, and inspire audiences to see the world in a new light.
What are some challenges faced in your career and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest hurdles I faced in my career was getting my filmmaking journey off the ground. Like many entrepreneurs, I struggled with limited resources and funding. Despite having a treasure trove of stories to share, I had to start small, producing short films that barely scratched the surface of my creative vision. But I didn’t let that hold me back.
I persevered, honing my craft, building my network, and learning from every project. As time went on, my hard work paid off, and I gradually secured the resources needed to produce full-length feature films of good quality. It wasn’t easy, but the journey taught me valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my artistic vision, no matter what obstacles came my way, and till date, I still aspire for even much more.
What are your interests and hobbies aside your career?
When I’m not behind the camera, you can find me strumming my guitar, belting out my favorite tunes, or soaking up the vibrant atmosphere at poetry events and art exhibitions. I’m a creative at heart, and art in all its forms is my passion. Music, in particular, is my go-to escape, allowing me to express emotions and tell stories in a different medium. Cooking is another longtime love affair, dating back to my childhood. I find joy in experimenting with new recipes, flavors, and techniques, whipping up culinary masterpieces just for the fun of it! Whether it’s a hearty stew or a decadent dessert, cooking lets me tap into my creative side and nourish both body and soul.
What are some of the Milestones you hope to Achieve in the coming years?
As I continue on this creative journey, I’m excited to announce that my next feature film, ‘Living in the Cemetery’, is currently in the works. This powerful story tackles the complex issue of racism from a fresh and thought-provoking perspective. Following its release, I’m looking forward to venturing into new territory with my first TV show, slated for production next year. This milestone project will allow me to explore more nuanced characters, intricate storylines, and socially relevant themes, further solidifying my passion for storytelling. In the coming years, I hope to continue pushing the boundaries of my craft, inspiring audiences, and leaving a lasting impact on the film industry.
What is the most valuable life lesson you have learned in your life or career?
One of the most valuable life lessons I’ve learned is to always put God first and never underestimate anyone. You never know which ladder will take you up! This wisdom has been a guiding force in my life and career, reminding me to stay humble, faithful, and open to opportunities. I’ve learned that everyone has a unique story and contribution to make, and you never know who might hold the key to unlocking your next great achievement. By prioritizing my relationship with God and treating others with respect and kindness, I’ve found that doors have opened, collaborations have flourished, and my creative vision has been refined. This lesson has taught me to approach life with gratitude, empathy, and a willingness to learn from others, and I believe it has made all the difference in my journey so far.
What advice will you give to young artists looking to make a mark in the industry?
To all the aspiring artists out there, I offer these words of wisdom: first and foremost, lean on God to guide you on your creative journey. Be willing to sacrifice for your passion, because no one else will do it for you. Don’t just dream big – put in the hard work and dedication required to bring your vision to life. Invest in yourself and your craft, even when it feels daunting or uncertain. Remember, the only way to make a mark in this industry is to be bold, take risks, and truly believe in yourself. So, put your money where your mouth is, stay focused, and trust that your talents will shine through. Most importantly, keep God at the center of your journey, and you’ll be amazed at the doors that open and the impact you’ll make!
