Michal Kozhan is an actress and playboy model from the US. She was recently interviewed by Famo Celebrity Magazine about her Spiritual Journey and below is the Q&A session we had with her.

Why Judaism?

I chose Judaism specifically because of the way it personally affected me. Combating antisemitism, the traditions, the philosophies… It felt so special and something that really rang true to me.

What inspired your spiritual journey?

I remember the day after my grandfather died, I was driving home and it was the end of a long and exhausting day. I happened to look in my rear view mirror and something clicked in me. The sun was setting, and it dawned on me that it’ll rise and set tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. Just because someone’s life had ended doesn’t mean that all life does. It didn’t mean that mine did, even though it felt like it. I was going through such a miserable time in my life, but something about seeing the sun set that day made me want to search inside myself and the world around me.

How did the COVID-19 pandemic impact you spiritually?

COVID hit me really hard. I lost both of my grandparents during the pandemic. I think I was scared, and lost, and sick. I felt directionless and purposeless. I started searching for spirituality through tarot first, because my mom was a tarot reader. It didn’t quite work for me, and more often than not, I felt like readers were just trying to scam me. I also delved into Catholicism, since I grew up in it. It didn’t quite fit just right either, but I’ll always have a place for it in my heart.

Any Thoughts and Philosophies?

I’d say if anything, I have a more Taoist/Existentialist approach to life, but I’m a little less of a fatalist these days and more optimistic. It’s best to let go of the past, stay present and focused on the outside world, and live for the moment. I was trapped in my head for so long, overthinking and ruminating. I was so sick. But once I started grounding myself and allowing myself to move forward in life, my life profoundly changed for the better.

Your Upbringing Spiritually?

I grew up Catholic, and though my siblings went to Catholic school, I didn’t. I went to public school and never got any sort of religious education. I wouldn’t say I’m extremely religious even now, but I’m allowing it to breathe new life into my every day experiences by appreciating the little things more.
